Electric machines are suitable for small gardens where a tidy edge or light weed trimming is required. These machines vary in power from 300w to 1000w.
Petrol machines can be broken down into two main groups:-
Trimmers - which usually have a bent shaft and the cutting head is driven by a flexible drive shaft. These machines are usually only fitted with a nylon line head and are suitable for edge trimming and light duty weed clearance.
Prices range from £85 to £180
Brushcutters - which have a straight shaft and the cutting head is usually driven by a solid drive shaft which makes it possible to fit a metal cutting blade for heavier cutting work.
Prices range from £119 to £480 but quality of build also varies widely and it is important to obtain advice as to the best machine for your requirements.
Many machines will accept attachments, the most popular of which is the pole hedgecutter which allows for easy and safe cutting of higher hedges.
